"Energise Your Future"
an OPITO careers event in Aberdeen

SCI-FUN and FUSION were invited to attend a careers event run by the oil and gas academy OPITO, in Aberdeen's Exhibition and Conference Centre on 24th November 2010. From the host website: "The purpose of the event [was] to showcase the oil, gas and energy sectors as exciting and vibrant industries that offer real career opportunities to people from the region now and into the future."

Just under forty exhibitors from the energy sector showcased their businesses through a range of different displays as they looked to appeal to students already studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects.

As the University of Edinburgh's representative, SCI-FUN took the FUSION-designed carbon capture and storage interactive (CCSI) to the event, where it formed part of the University exhibitor display (shown below).

The CCSI proved to be a popular focal point for the event: pupils found out more about the background behind carbon capture and storage, before going on to discuss career options with companies who are active in this area of research.

Despite poor weather conditions (the journey home being particularly exciting, as a prelude to December's snow fun) the afternoon and early evening events attracted over 500 school pupils and members of the public.
